Join Cheryl McCants for Upcoming Newark Tech Talks

On Monday, August 21, 2017 at 6:00 p.m., Impact president and CEO Cheryl McCants will serve as a featured speaker for the first installment of this year’s Tech Talks in Newark’s Military Park series. Cheryl and Stephanie Macias-Arlington, of the New Jersey Institute of Technology Enterprise Development Center, will discuss their experiences in tech, business and the overall state of women in technology.

Even as the tech industry continues to struggle with gender discrimination and sexual harassment against women, the robust history of women in tech is being unearthed and elevated. Articles like this from The Guardian. or from Forbes highlight the fact that women have always been integral parts of the tech world. And, as the number of women entrepreneurs – in tech and otherwise – continues to bloom, it is more important than ever to tell their stories and have these conversations.
Cheryl began her undergraduate education in biomedical engineering and continued her post-graduate studies and career in business and marketing communication. Impact Consulting Enterprises, founded by Cheryl in 1989, has served clients across a myriad of industries, including telecommunications, bio-pharmaceuticals, development and more. Apps and other tech resources play a major role in Impact’s operations, and Cheryl stays in the know on the latest tech news, especially when it comes to ransomware and other cyber security threats.

The Military Park Partnership, Code for Newark and the City of Newark Office of Technology Information launched Tech Talks in Military Park last year to engage local residents, office workers, and students in discussions on technology. In addition to a slate of keynote speakers and panelists, the weekly event features device demos, giveaways, and networking over drinks at Burg. Tech Talks take place each Monday through October 2, from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. in Military Park, and feature representatives from both large tech companies and small startups in and around the greater Newark, NJ area.
