April 24, 2017 – Newark, N.J. – Today Mayor Ras J. Baraka, Deputy Mayor Baye Adofo Wilson, and Newark Community EDC Acting President and CEO Aisha Glover, unveiled Newark Foundry Workspaces located at 569 Martin Luther King, Blvd., the City’s newest co-working space for entrepreneurs and small business owners. Council member Gayle Chaneyfield-Jenkins was also present to welcome the communal space to the Central Ward.

Through Newark Foundry’s partnership with All Renovation Construction and the DDBR Group LLC, what was once a run-down, abandoned mansion located at 569 Martin Luther King Blvd. is now nearly two dozen units of professional workspace available for rent immediately. This shared, membership-based workspace is the latest on a thriving list of small business development and entrepreneurial centers that call the City of Newark home.

“The launching of the Foundry is another step forward in the growth of Newark as a City, attracting entrepreneurs and the jobs that they create. This is the eighth shared space to open in Newark,” said Mayor Ras J. Baraka.

“We have a number of City and Newark Community Economic Development Corporation initiatives that encourage entrepreneurs and help them grow. The new businesses that locate in our shared spaces will have access to the full range of those programs.” “We are so proud to see reuse projects like these in Newark. Co-working spaces that are created out of underutilized spaces are rare and truly add a value to our neighborhoods,” said Aisha Glover, NCEDC acting president and CEO. “Newark Foundry Workspaces has tapped into the entrepreneurial community with eight local businesses who are leading in some of the fastest growing and highest need sectors.”

At 6,000 square-feet, the tech-charged offices offer a casual atmosphere set in the historic elegance of the mansion’s hardwood floors, ornate crown molding and abundant natural light. 569 MLK BLVD is also conveniently located near downtown Newark, and in walking distance of University Heights, Essex Community College and the New Jersey Institute of Technology campuses.

Membership includes access to full-time or part-time co-working office space, mailboxes, workstations, conference rooms, convenient parking, on-site management and more. Private space for teams of two to six starts at $800/month including utilities. Unlimited access to co-working space for individuals starts at $375/month also including utilities. For the month of April, individual spaces are available at a reduced rate of $275.
