Online Advocates for Foster Families Join Forces to Raise $200,000 in Back-to-School Supplies for Vulnerable Children

It’s My Community Store and iFoster team up on the Back-to-School Project

Reno, Nevada — May 22 — It’s My Community Store and iFoster support National Foster Care Month by kicking off The Back to School Project, a fundraiser that provides free back-to-school kits and supplies to underprivileged, displaced and foster children throughout Nevada, California and Idaho.

National Foster Care Month is dedicated to the more than 400,000 children and youth currently in the foster care system. According to national statistics from Childwelfare.gov, without sufficient resources, 45% of displaced children will need to repeat a grade level, 46% will drop out of high school or fail to get their GED by age 19.

The Back to School Project was created by It’s My Community Store and iFoster as an effort to provide age appropriate supplies like backpacks, binders, calculators, notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons and more.  iFoster sources a list of recommended school supplies from area school districts to ensure that every child will receive the tools they need to have a successful school year.

Once donations for school supplies are collected via the It’s My Community Store donation platform, iFoster distributes the back packs to underprivileged, displaced and foster children throughout participating states. The goal of The Back to School Project is to raise $200,000 during the 3 months before the back to school season (May-July).

“While searching for non-profits to partner with on The Back to School Project, my team learned about the growing number of homeless, foster, and children living in poverty who could not afford supplies that many families take for granted,” said Jenifer Rose Creator and CEO of It’s My Community Store.

“We knew that iFoster would be able to get the supplies in the hands of those who need them the most. We believe that a lot of people making small sacrifices can have a huge impact on the local community,” added Rose.

It’s My Community Store is a for-profit business with a philanthropic focus. The online store specializes in the sale of office and school supplies to area businesses who want to give back. Businesses and individuals can purchase office and school supplies and in turn, It’s My Community Store will donate 10 percent of the total order to the non-profit group of the purchaser’s choice. Current benefitting non-profits include Ronald McDonald House, SPCA, iFoster, as well as schools and community sports groups.
